　　On January 29，1979，Carter held a state banquet in honour of Deng Xiaoping.The banquet hall was decorated with 1，500 red and pink camellia flowers especially sent for from Georgia，hometown of President Carter.The band played both Chinese and American folk music.In his toast，President Carter said：“Born in the revolution for winning its liberty，the United States is but a young conuntry with an independence history of200 years，whereas our Constitution is the most ancient written constitution in the world that has still remained effective.Chinese civilization with a history of 4000—year written records is one of the oldest cultures in the world.However，as a modern country，China is still young.We can learn a great deal of things from each other.”Deng Xiaoping said in his toast，“Our two countries used to be in isolation and confrontation with each other for 30 years.This abnormal phase has at last come to an end.”
